MACWORLD FIRST: America online United kingdom announces OS X browser plans
America online United kingdom is creating a Mac OS X 10.1 (and above) client, the organization told Macworld United kingdom today.
The surprise announcement is really a change of heart with respect to the organization, which suspended growth and development of its Mac OS X client in November 2001, explaining that could not justify the event expense in those days. The organization stated it might still monitor the marketplace.
Why the modification of heart? Matt Peacock, chief communications officer at America online United kingdom, described: “We stated we’d watch the marketplace – and it is moved. Mac OS X takes off, it’s moving very rapidly through Apple’s users list. It’s happened.”

America online United kingdom will open the beta-testing programme to existing Mac-using America online customers “in the following two weeks”, Peacock described.
Describing the brand new client, he stated: “It’s a totally different build – it also is different from the united states build with completely new functions built-in.” The customer fully implements Apple’s Aqua interface because of its UI, and initial lab reports claim it “sits perfectly” on the Mac OS X desktop.
“The email and im features appear to have been reconstructed. There is a new address book, as well as an entirely change-&-feel. We have completely redesigned the Welcome screen”.
Peacock discussed new, Mac-only features being produced for this release. “Favourites are host-based, therefore it is feasible for Mac OS X users to gain access to their Favourites from the computer. The Address Book can also be host-based,” he stated.
Both features happen to be developed as a result of user demands, he described.
Peacock stated: “AOL United kingdom is really as happy relating to this decision because it hopes Mac pc users will be”.
