Napster UK launches price war
Napster UK has upped the ante in its battle to take a slice of the digital music market, slashing song prices to match those charged by iTunes Music Store.
The company has lowered the cost per track to 79 pence, from 99 pence. It claims the decision has been driven by “record sales at Napster’s UK site over Christmas”.
Album prices now match Apple’s – £7.95. The new price is available to Napster subscribers initially, but is expected to be extended to non-subscribers in “the next few days”, the company said.
The company has always offered a bulk buy discount on song, and this has been beefed-up as well, they now cost: £33.99 for 50 (68 pence per track), £17.99 for 25 (72 pence per track), and £10.99 for 15 (73 pence per track).
Leanne Sharman, Napster vice-president and UK general manager said: “By dropping our store prices in preparation for the launch of Napster To Go we are able to offer UK music fans an unbeatable proposition.”
